But for Annie Ferland, nutritionist and doctor of pharmacy, you have to be discerning in the face of all these beautiful promises. “The mushrooms seem to have a lot of effects. We don’t necessarily know which ones, because the list is very long, very short, very vast, very vague, ”explains the one who is also founder of the culinary site Science + Fourchette.

No miracle pill

When taking dietary supplements, one should first ask oneself regarding the desired results and ensure that no prescribed medication might interact with the supplement.

“We have to go back to where we have power, that is to say, have healthy lifestyle habits, eat fruits and vegetables, adds Ms. Ferland. Wanting to change our health overnight, it doesn’t work like that and we don’t have a miracle pill.”

Increase in supplement sales

Do you often seem to hear regarding mushrooms these days? There is indeed a craze this year for this food, but it is not the only one. The supplement market is also booming.

“If we look at economists, experts who are interested in the economic market of well-being, we see that there is an increase of 6 to 7% in sales of these products per year, underlines Ms. Ferland. There are a lot of people who have a big stake in making mushroom supplements worth selling.”
