Yesterday, Thursday, the General Directorate of National Security and Customs managed to thwart the smuggling of a significant amount of cocaine on board a refrigerated container in the port of Tangier Med.

Police Brigadier General Mumtaz Fikri Ahmed Ashraf, head of the security zone in Tangier Med, stated that a joint security operation between the security and customs services at the Tangier Med port resulted in the seizure of a refrigeration container coming from Ecuador and heading to Spain via the Tangier Med port following its cargo was suspected.

The security official added, in a statement to MAP today, Friday, that the inspection procedures to which the container was subjected made it possible to seize a significant amount of cocaine, carefully wrapped inside the guts of frozen tuna fish, adding that “the process of extracting the drug is continuing in order to subject it to the final weighing process.” .

The state interest of the judicial police in the city of Tangiers opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution office to uncover the transnational criminal network involved in the attempt to smuggle this shipment of cocaine.

The completed research and investigations are working to detect and diagnose all members of this international criminal network, whether in the country of smuggling or in the country of final destination, in coordination with the national central offices of the International Criminal Police Organization, Interpol.
