In the outgoing week, a popular Taiwanese resource DigiTimes reported that Intel is delaying placing orders for 3nm components for its CPUs at TSMC until the fourth quarter of this year. CEO Patrick Gelsinger at an industry event was forced to refute such information.

According to Patrick Gelsinger, quoted by the resource Tom’s Hardwarein full accordance with the schedule, the release of both TSMC 3nm products for Intel and its own components using Intel technology 3 is being prepared: “All 3nm programs are on schedule, as with TSMC and our own Intel 3 used for Granite Rapids and Sierra Forrest in particular”. The head of Intel along the way expressed bewilderment at the frequency and persistence of such rumors. Some time ago, according to him, similar rumors appeared regarding the Intel 4 process technology, as well as other programs of interaction with TSMC, but they were not true at that time.

In this remark, Gelsinger mentioned Granite Rapids and Sierra Forrest server processors, which should be produced by the company independently using Intel 3 technology, which is close in its characteristics to the 5-nm process technology in the interpretation of the same TSMC. Granite Rapids processors contain high-performance computing cores, while Sierra Forrest is focused on improving energy efficiency, and therefore contains only economical cores.

With regard to cooperation with TSMC, it is currently known that Intel will receive chips with a graphics subsystem for Meteor Lake processors from a Taiwanese contractor, they will be manufactured using N3 technology. Intel said in January that it was still going to introduce Meteor Lake consumer processors before the end of this year.

Arrow Lake processors should be their successors, offering a die with compute cores made using Intel’s own 20A technology, as well as a die with a graphics subsystem made by TSMC using N3E technology, which is more advanced than N3. The processors of this family are expected to be released next year.

“Thus, there are no changes in these programs. Clear adherence to plans in the client, server and graphics segments. We also involve clients in our own contract business. That is, I am pleased that we managed to overcome many of the problems in the performing discipline. You know, these rumors, like many others, will be debunked by our clear actions.” Patrick Gelsinger said confidently regarding this whole situation.
