“Creating a world music festival on the right bank, frankly, it was not won…”

Since 1993, that old time without a tram that relegated the towns to the other side of the river light years away, the summer rendezvous has taken on a dimension that it may not have dreamed of, with the aim “to give another image of the right bank”. A successful bet, artistically first of all. Evidenced by the appearances of Neneh Cherry, Cheb Mami, Maceo Parker or Femi Kuti, to name a few, having walked on one of the stages of the very eclectic festival. Socially too, the meeting keeps its promises. “It’s an event that takes place near cities, where families picnic in front of the concert, where neighborhood associations come to offer food and which takes place in a very good-natured spirit”, summarizes Patrick Duval, quite proud to defend “a militant festival model”.

Reunion in the spotlight

But since we have to talk regarding music, the programming of this thirtieth edition attests to it: the Hauts de Garonne continue to invite many trips. Reunion Island will be particularly honored this summer with the presence of René Lacaille from this Friday, June 30 in the evening in Floirac then Maya Kamaty, Thursday, July 6 in Bassens. The first, a historical figure of maloya, inseparable from his accordion, surrounded by his son Marco and two other companions, distills a rhythmic and warm score. Coming from the new generation, the second, daughter of Gilbert Pounia, leader of the famous group Ziskakan, offers a “kreol urban pop”, with “more urban rhythms and explosive street accents”.

Mustapha and Hakim Amokrane, formerly of the Zebda group, will perform on Friday July 7 at the Cenon open-air theater.

On the stage of the Bois Fleuri de Lormont park, this Saturday, July 1, festival-goers will be treated to an astonishing musical expedition, entitled “Sowal Diabi” by the Kaboul collective in Bamako, which brings together artists from around ten countries. The show, created in Paris, must transport the spectator to Mali with the singer Mamani Keita, to Iran with the violinist Aïda Nosrat or to Afghanistan with the tablas player Siar Hashimi. Among the best-known faces, we will also remember, for the last evening, Friday July 7 at the Cenon open-air theater, those of the Amokrane brothers, who have long hosted the Zebda group. Mouss and Hakim come to perform “Daron de la Garonne. And that promises to move.
