The attempt of the “Hiraka” to reach Ceuta via the Parliament Dome Hotel, against the backdrop of the written question directed by the parliamentarian belonging to the Federation of the Democratic Left, Fatima Zahra Tamani, to the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, regarding clarifying the measures that his government intends to take to save the young people who headed towards Fnideq in an attempt to illegally immigrate to Spain via the occupied city of Ceuta.

Al-Tamimi confirmed that “hundreds of young people and children tried, on the night of Saturday, September 14, 2024, to head towards the occupied city of Ceuta, as part of the so-called illegal forced migration, after they had become fed up with poverty, unemployment and marginalization, with the continuation of unpopular policies that only make the poor poorer and the rich richer.”

The parliamentarian continued, “While your government claims that it is moving towards building a social state, we find a completely different reality, far removed from the features of a social state, where social disparities are deepening, rights gains are being undermined, unemployment is worsening, poverty rates are rising, citizens’ purchasing power is being undermined, and promises made to citizens, especially those related to job opportunities and combating poverty and fragility, are not being fulfilled.”

Al-Tamimi added: “Poverty, exclusion, unemployment, and the lack of decent and sustainable job opportunities, along with the high cost of living, are all factors, along with others, that have contributed to the tendency of these young people to leave and sacrifice their lives in search of better livelihoods that will bring them closer to the dream of a decent life that is desired and suspended.”

She continued by saying: “Your government, Mr. President, has failed to manage most of the crises, and has not been able to dissuade young people from the idea of leaving, and has not been able to achieve social and spatial justice and reduce exclusion and marginalization. Dozens of young people who want to take the road of death come from the deep Morocco that has been traversed by four-wheel drive vehicles carrying electoral promises that have not been fulfilled on the ground.”

She concluded by asking: “What is the point of public policies that do not reflect on citizens, but are responsible for the deterioration of the conditions of large segments of Moroccans? What are the urgent measures to save those young people who chose the path of death as a result of political imbalances that have perpetuated neglect and fed despair and frustration?”
