The Guiteras thermoelectric plant is about to be synchronized with the National System 2024-03-19 06:04:19

Since this Monday morning, the testing and start-up process of the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant began. The main electricity generating plant must be ready for today’s nighttime peak hour.

After more than 15 days outside the National Electroenergy System (SEN), the plant located in Matanzas must contribute regarding 280 MW. Today another stoppage of that unit ends, following the execution of more than 1,500 assigned tasks.

Engineer Lázaro Guerra, technical director of the Cuban Electrical Union (UNE), commented on the topic. “This Monday the CTE will be synchronized with the SEN, but it is a complex process that is not exempt from possible unforeseen events.”

In the official report of each day, the UNE announced that CTE Guiteras would return to the SEN today following the planned maintenance and will help in the generation starting tonight.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Energy and Mines in Cuba, Vicente de la O Levy, evaluated this weekend the schedule and results of the maintenance.

According to the results of what was carried out at the CTE Guiteras, in Matanzas, the startup must offer the amount of MW indicated by the experts.

Crudo cubano for Guiteras

The minister explained the real importance of the CTE Antonio Guiteras for the better functioning of the SEN and thus avoid the always uncomfortable blackouts. The effects have affected all the provinces of the country, causing power interruptions of up to more than 10 hours in a row in many cases.

The head of Energy and Mines highlighted how much Guiteras represents in the SEN, and its generation possibilities with Cuban crude oil. Levy congratulated the workers of this industry and noted that they have not rested to restore service.

The plant is expected to shut down once more just before summer for other planned maintenance.
