ALGIERS – Professional organizations of Algerian producers and exporters have affirmed that the orientations of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during the last meeting of the Council of Ministers, concerning the regulation of foreign trade, would make it possible to avoid shortages on the national market.

In this regard, the president of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), Kamel Moula, specified, in a statement to APS, that the CREA could only support these measures, decided by the President of the Republic, for the protection and promotion of the national economy.

“While increasing our exports is undeniably a primary objective, we consider, however, that in its policy aimed at regulating imports, it is quite normal that, like all countries, the government works to prioritize the satisfaction of national demand through local production. This approach aims to prevent the risks of shortages and tensions on the market,” he maintained.

During the meeting of the Council of Ministers, held last Sunday, the President of the Republic had insisted to the Government that it will never be tolerated to create shortages, “for whatever reason”, urging greater vigilance at the level of the Ministry of Commerce to fight against import lobbies, which try to blackmail the State, and this, by withdrawing their licenses and trade registers as soon as their involvement is established.

The President of the Republic also ordered the preparation of a presidential decree regulating foreign trade, including export operations, which require careful financial and economic feasibility studies of the national and international market, so that “export does not become a curse and a source of shortage and imbalance in the national market.”

Mr. Moula also indicated that the decision of the President of the Republic to regulate foreign trade through a presidential decree would contribute to “the moralization” of the economic sector, noting that this is part of the development of the national economy and the preservation of the social character of the State.

And to emphasize that the regulation of the commercial sector “will be carried out with the assistance of all stakeholders.”

For his part, the president of the National Association of Algerian Exporters (ANEXAL), Tarek Boulmerka, affirmed that the orientations of the President of the Republic “will create a balance between the country’s exports and imports, which helps prevent shortages on the local market.”

Mr. Boulmerka welcomed the statement of the President of the Republic, during the meeting of the Council of Ministers, according to which export operations require detailed studies of financial and economic feasibility of the national and international market, noting that these studies will make it possible to export and import on an economic basis.

For his part, economic expert Abdelkader Slimani welcomed, in a statement to APS, the importance of the decision of the President of the Republic to fight against “import lobbies”, which will, he assures, prevent shortages in consumer products and production inputs.

Considering that the decision of the President of the Republic to organize foreign trade would contribute to the protection of the national economy, the same expert recalled that “the import lobbies are at the origin of the overcharging operations of invoices against which the President of the Republic fought, while they damaged the national economy before the year 2020”.

Stressing that the decision of the President of the Republic to organize export operations will make it possible to “ensure the availability of different products, by focusing on the export of products recording a production surplus, Mr. Slimani recalled the importance of the role of the National Consultative Council for the Promotion of Exports, established a year ago.
