As shared by the North American, Central American and Caribbean Football Confederation on its official website, the draw for the group stage of the fourth Nations League will take place on May 6 at 5 p.m.
This new edition of the League of Nations will feature the participation of 41 national teams divided into 3 leagues (16 in the first two and 9 in the last). The competition will take place during the Fifa dates of September, October and November 2024, while the finals will take place in March 2025.
As happened in the last edition, the 12 national teams with the lowest ranking in League A according to the Concacaf ranking will be divided into two groups of six teams each and will play in a Swiss-style league system, in which that each team will play a total of four games (two home and two away).
The top two in each group will advance to the quarterfinals where they will join the four teams with the highest ranking.
As shared by Concacaf, the quarterfinals will be played in a round-trip format to determine the semifinalists.
The Selection of Guatemala will join the draw for League A (the highest level) following its participation in the last edition where it finished in fourth position in Group A, behind Panama, Trinidad and Tobago and Martinique.
In the 2023-2024 edition of the Nations League, the blue and white team had one victory, one draw and two defeats. These results prevented Guatemala from advancing to the quarterfinals and also meant giving up the dispute for a ticket to the Copa América USA 2024 that will begin in June.
Teams that make up League A
In addition to Guatemala, there are 15 other teams that make up League A of the Concacaf Nations League: Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, United States, French Guiana (promoted), Guadeloupe (promoted), Guyana (promoted), Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Nicaragua (promoted), Panama, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
The important dates highlighted by Concacaf were the following:
- Group Stage: September 2-10, October 7-15 and November 11-15, 2024
- Quarterfinals: November 11-19, 2024
- Semifinals: March 20, 2025
- Final and match for third place: March 23, 2025
Already qualified for the quarterfinals are Mexico, the United States, Panama and Canada as they are the best ranked teams in the region.
For its part, Guatemala will participate in the group stage draw that will take place on Monday, May 6. The blue and white is already predetermined in Pot 2 along with Honduras.
It should be noted that this edition of the Champions League will serve as a qualifier for the 2025 Gold Cup, however, Concacaf has not yet revealed the criteria.
