The GSHC experienced a dark Friday. The Garnet lost 6-1 to Davos in the National League, a few hours following learning that their captain Noah Rod would no longer play this season.
Genève-Servette, which had two victories in a row in the championship, is therefore stalling with a view to the famous 6th place and remains 8th. And coach Jan Cadieux’s players have not prepared ideally for the Champions League final which will pit them once morest Skelleftea on Tuesday evening at Les Vernets.
The Genevans, however, opened the scoring once morest Davos, thanks to a successful numerical advantage from Sakari Manninen (16th goal of the season) in the 10th minute. But things quickly became complicated: Davos was already leading 3-1 in the 30th minute following the indefatigable Andres Ambühl found the fault in the ‘power play’.
The HCD, which scored a fourth consecutive success in the National League on Friday, hit the nail on the head by scoring 23 seconds before the end of the second third then… 23 seconds following the start of the final period. It was Valentin Nussbaumer who sealed the score in the 48th thanks to his 15th success in this 2023/24 financial year.
Davos now 6th
Davos thus moves to 6th place, tied on points with Lugano (7th) which was off on Friday. Graubünden will host Lausanne HC (4th) on Sunday to confirm their place in the top 6, while Ticino will travel to Zug on Saturday. Genève-Servette remains three lengths behind the bar.
The gaps are more and more narrow between the candidates for direct qualification for the play-offs. 5-1 winner of Kloten, Biel thus came back to four points behind the Davos/Lugano duo – and therefore one behind the GSHC. The Zealanders did not tremble on Friday, already leading 3-0 following 9’44” of play.
Berne, for its part, missed the opportunity to give itself some breathing room compared to this 6th place. Beaten 4-1 on the ice of the leader, the Zurich Lions, the Bears remain in 5th place with a margin of two units on the bar. They will host Ambri-Piotta on Saturday, who lost 3-1 in Leventina once morest Rapperswil-Jona.
One second too long for Ajoie
Ambri-Piotta retains 10th place, synonymous with play-in, despite his defeat. Langnau came back level with the Ticino, but with two more matches, beating Ajoie 3-2 following. The Tigers inflicted their ninth defeat in a row on the Jurassiens thanks to a goal from Julian Schmutz… 1 second from the end of overtime.
