Neukieritzsch – Saxony’s Greens will in future be led by a dual female leadership.
At a state delegate conference, which has been taking place in Neukieritzsch near Leipzig since Friday evening, the members first confirmed Christin Furtenbacher (37) from Chemnitz as state spokeswoman on Saturday morning. She received 91.4 percent of the votes, and there were no opposing candidates.
There had been an internal controversy regarding the post of second spokesman for the board. After the Leipzig student Marie Müser (24) had declared her ambitions, the previous co-head of state Norman Volger (44) withdrew and refrained from running once more for “personal reasons”.
Apparently, some of the delegates had reason not to agree to Müser. With 72.4 percent of the votes, she received a manageable result by Green standards.
However, this did not detract from the atmosphere at the party congress. Instead, the party presented itself as confident and content with itself.
In the last two elections in 2019 and 2021, the best results were achieved and a coalition agreement was concluded with the CDU and SPD, which “means a real departure for Saxony,” said co-state spokeswoman Furtenbacher.
Dresden’s environmental mayor and mayor candidate, Eva Jähnigen (56), presented her ambitions with corresponding self-confidence. With it there will be a rent brake and Dresden will be climate neutral by 2030.
A speech by Green federal spokesman Omid Nouripour (46) planned for the start of the election Saturday had to be cancelled. Nouripour is still suffering from the consequences of a Covid infection and greeted him via video message.
