Five men have been convicted of stealing jewels in the Green Vault in Dresden. Prosecutors faced a dilemma – and made a deal.

Tuesday morning, Dresden District Court. Five men are convicted for the theft, they are between 24 and 29 years old and receive prison sentences of four years and four months to six years and three months. One accused is acquitted. They all have a family name: Remmo, also spelled Remo. They belong to an extended family of Arabic origin that is associated with organized crime in Berlin. The verdict caused a stir: the public prosecutor’s office agreed to an exchange.
