ALGIERS – Several Algerian companies have courageously taken up the challenge of strengthening the position of mechanical industries within the national industrial landscape, through products meeting international standards while maintaining a high rate of national integration, an initiative which should instill significant dynamics to the industrial sector, particularly the automobile industry.

Participating in the Algerian Production Fair (FPA) organized at the Palais des Expositions des Pins Maritimes (Algiers) until December 23, companies highlighted their achievements in the development of mechanical industries in Algeria, displaying their willingness to contribute to increasing integration rates in this sector.

During a tour of the various pavilions of the Fair, the APS noted the determination of Algerian companies to follow the directions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, given last Thursday at the opening of the fair .

In this regard, the President of the Republic affirmed that “the mechanical industry must pull Algeria upwards from an industrial point of view”, ensuring that the Algerian industrial fabric is progressing thanks to “many operators local people who have taken the initiative to invest in this area.

“We are on the right track,” said President Tebboune who also welcomed the progress made by the mechanical industry in Algeria, highlighting the importance given by the State to these industries.

In this context, the company “Iris” aims to increase the production of tires for tourist cars from 2 million units/year to 4 million units/year by 2024, by expanding the factory which came into operation in 2019, making it possible to meet local demand and export 40% of production to 28 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and other African countries, the company said. information director of the said company, Kahina Arhab.

The official specified that there was a project to produce tires for trucks and buses by 2025, noting ongoing negotiations with several players interested in automobile manufacturing in Algeria to provide them with tires “to international standards”.

Concerning the company “Planète Filter”, it moved regarding three years ago from the importation of filters, which it had been carrying out for around 20 years, to local production, in accordance with “the aspirations of the Algerian state to promote national production, in particular the production of automobile spare parts”, according to the director of the company, Farid Khazani.

“We manufacture oil, air and fuel filters for passenger cars, heavy vehicles, industrial machines, as well as factory-specific filters,” he noted, adding: “We are preparing to contribute to the development of the mechanical industry in Algeria by providing the quality certifications requested by automobile manufacturing companies.

Regarding the raw material, Mr. Khazani clarified that it varied between local and imported, stressing that “the Tosyali iron and steel factory will provide the company with certain metal products from 2024, while other companies supply us with rubber and springs, which will allow us to increase the integration rate to almost 60% in two years, compared to 30% currently.”

For his part, Amine Chabi, commercial director of the company “El Qods” specializing in glass processing, highlighted the company’s efforts for nearly 40 years to develop the automotive glass industry in Algeria, this which has allowed it in recent years to move into the manufacture of windows for buses, industrial machines, and “Coradia” train carriages, metros and trams.

The same manager indicated that the company was helping to increase the rate of integration in the automotive industry sector in Algeria by increasing its production capacity to 650 units of automotive glass per day (compared to 300 currently) from 2025, notably that “the company received an offer from Fiat to supply it with glass”.
