The governor of Sonora and IMSS plan a new University Hospital for medical students

The facilities of the old General Hospital of the state of Sonora, located on Luis Encinas boulevard in Hermosillo, were donated to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) to turn them into a hospital that will provide training to 100 university students, reported Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño .

Accompanied by José Luis Alomía Zegarra, Secretary of Health, the state president explained that, when the new General Hospital of Specialties became fully operational, it officially and gradually began the closure of the old hospital.

“The great advantage of this hospital is that it will expand the care capacity of IMSS-Bienestar, but it will be able to receive 100 students graduating from the University of Sonora Medicine, and train specialized cadres that we need so much. in the state to improve people’s care,” he said.

Durazo Montaño reported that, from September 15, 2022 to date, the new General Hospital of Specialties has provided 20,159 services, including emergencies, allergology, angiology, maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, pain clinic, dermatology, endocrinology, internal medicine, neurology, nutrition, dentistry, psychology, rheumatology, rehabilitation, and endoscopy.

María de Lourdes Díaz Espinosa, IMSS delegate in Sonora, explained that upon receiving the donation of the old General Hospital, a center for clinical and surgical excellence will be created, to which medical personnel and any health worker who requires further training will have access. for which an investment of one hundred million pesos will be required.
