In the current year, the government has decided to give a financial grant of 82 lakh 45 thousand rupees as support for terminal diseases of women and children, old age treatment and education. The money will be given from the Distressed Women and Children Welfare Fund of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs.
In the 24th meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Distressed Women and Children Welfare Fund in the conference room of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday (April 5), it was decided to give this grant considering the application received for the grant in the current financial year.
The meeting was chaired by the President of the Board of Trustees of the Distressed Women and Children Welfare Fund, the State Minister for Women and Children Affairs, Fazilatun Nesa Indira, and the Vice President of the Board of Trustees, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs. Hasanuzzaman Kallol, Member of Trustee, Additional Secretary. Muhibuzzaman, Additional Secretary Muhammad Wahiduzzaman, Director General of Women Affairs Department Farida Parveen and representatives of various ministries.
State Minister Fazilatun Nessa Indira said in the President’s speech that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing various social security programs for the development of the helpless and needy people of the country. The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has given 30 kg rice per month to 1 million 40 thousand women through the VWB program and 12 lakh 54 thousand mothers have been given an allowance of Tk 800 per month under the Mother and Child Support Programme. Besides, training is being given in various trades for economic empowerment and employment creation of women.
Out of 2,584 applications received in this financial year, 50 people received Tk 12 lakh 50 thousand for chronic diseases, 60 people got Tk 9 lakh for old age diseases, 140 people got Tk 14 lakh for general treatment, 69 people got Tk 6 lakh 90 thousand for education, financial/other 801 people. It was decided to give a grant of 40 lakh five thousand rupees. It was decided to give a grant of 82 lakh 45 thousand taka to a total of 1 thousand 120 people.
The grantee will take the grant check from the office of the respective Upazila Nirbahi Officer. In the meeting, State Minister Fazilatun Nessa Indira directed to issue the grant checks to the grantees at the earliest.
The meeting was also attended by Selina Khalek, member of the board of trustees, representative of Bangladesh Mahila Samity, Nasima Akhter Jolly, editor of Girls’ Advocacy Forum, Wahida Banu, executive director of Aparajeya Bangla, Hossain Ara Siddiqui Julie and Roshan Jahan Sathi.
