The controversial video features a young man with the nickname “Mertel”. The protagonist explains that he receives 1,800 euros net monthly income without doing anything other than accumulating various social benefits – and in particular the disabled adult allowance (AAH). “Mertel” explains that he was awarded the latter thanks to a medical certificate of convenience, obtained from a doctor whom he allegedly “manipulated”. And he offers Internet users the opportunity to monetize his good tips.

Contacted by AFP, “Mertel’s” lawyer confirmed that his client was indeed receiving 1,800 euros per month in benefits, but refuted any fraud. Me Hakim Chergui assures that he suffers from a real disability – and that his video is proof of “the significant psychiatric vulnerabilities known by our client […] identified by the medical profession in 2005.”
