While electricity rates for the second quarter (April-June) of this year were delayed by 40 days, attention is focusing on whether there will be another rate hike ahead of the start of the third quarter (July-September) on the 1st of next month.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced today (13th) that “KEPCO plans to submit factors for the third quarter electricity rate increase to the Ministry of Industry by the 16th in accordance with the Ministry of Industry’s announcement.”

The rate increase factor is calculated according to the price of the 3rd quarter fuel import trade statistics, which will be released around the day following tomorrow (15th).

The scope is limited to ‘a decrease of 5 won to an increase of 5 won per ㎾h (kilowatt hour)’.

The government will comprehensively review the possibility of price increase due to electricity rate hikes and KEPCO’s cumulative deficit, and deliver opinions on electricity rates to KEPCO by the 20th.

Afterwards, KEPCO plans to make a final announcement on whether or not to raise electricity rates on the 21st.

The government has the right to suspend (freeze) rate hikes regardless of the increase factors submitted by KEPCO.
