The relationship between Government and the Supreme Court touched a new stress point in the last hour, when the Executive decided not to transfer funds claimed by the highest court to cover the increase in the salaries of judicial employees.
The Chief of Staff himself, Agustín Rossi, told the Court that to pay these increases use what you already have: resources previously assigned or funds own.
This Thursday the Court had asked the Government for an “urgent response” to its claim. The four judges stated that the lack of definition compromised “the independence of the Judiciary” and threatened “the normal functioning of the justice service.”
The Chief of Staff answered the question. And as he had done four months ago, he alluded to the complicated financial situation that the country is going through to justify the rejection,
“I am pleased to address you in relation to the note dated September 6 of this year, which reiterates the request for modification of the current budget items and the provision of the necessary financial resources, in order to grant a six and a half percent (6.5%) salary increase as of July 1, 2023 for all categories of the scale of the Judicial Branch of the Nation,” he began.
And he added: “As I stated in my note dated May 31, responding to official letter 117/2023, the critical situation of availability of financial resources from the National Treasury due to the prevailing global and local macroeconomic context, has required, first of all, place, which each Jurisdiction meets its needs with its own available resources. For this reason, on several occasions, this department has requested that the budget increase requirements made by its jurisdiction be with financing source 13 – Resources with specific allocation.”
