The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Korea, which occurred on the 15th, surpassed 400,000 for the first time. According to the counts of each city and province on that day, the provisional count of new confirmed cases from 00:00 to 8pm on the 15th exceeded 400,000. As of 00:00 on the 12th, when the previous highest number of confirmed cases per day was already recorded, it is more than 388,665. The final number of confirmed cases announced on the 16th is expected to soar to the mid-400,000 level.

Initially, the quarantine authorities predicted the peak of the epidemic of ‘Omicron mutation’ from the 16th to the 22nd, and predicted the maximum number of confirmed cases at ‘372,000 per day’. The number of confirmed cases exceeded expectations from the first day of the peak period predicted by the government. The change in the testing system seems to have had an impact here so that a positive test can be made only with the results of the rapid antigen test for professionals instead of the PCR test.

Meanwhile, the government will hold a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 18th and decide on new social distancing measures to be applied from the 21st. It is also known that the company is considering a plan to completely lift the current policy of ‘meeting with 6 people, business hours at 11 am’.
