The Cameroonian Minister in charge of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie, announced on Thursday the organization of activities once morest hepatitis for a month across the country.
Speaking to the press on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, he specified that this period would be marked by the implementation of actions aimed at raising awareness, detection and treatment.
In Cameroon, hepatitis C and B respectively represent a national prevalence rate of 1.3% and 8.3%.
The Minister affirmed that the significant increase in cases of hepatitis was due to “the ignorance or rather the ignorance of the populations, and the adoption of risky practices and behaviors, which every day expose more and more people to this disease.
Mr. Manaouda added that Cameroon, which currently has 19 approved treatment centers and two health care centers throughout the national territory, has managed to reduce the overall cost of treatment drugs by 82%. of hepatitis C and 60% of that relating to hepatitis B.
