Maduro announced in March that the Executive would reactivate the dialogue process with the Venezuelan opposition

MADRID, 6 (EUROPA PRESS)

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has led a meeting with the opposition electoral coalition Democratic Alliance in the framework of the resumption of the dialogue process with the Venezuelan opposition, which the Executive abandoned as a result of the extradition to the United States of Álex Saab, alleged figurehead of the president.

The meeting, which took place at the Miraflores Palace, was also attended by Maduro’s wife, Cilia Flores; the vice president, Delcy Rodríguez; and the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, according to VTV.

For his part, Juan Carlos Alvarado, general secretary of the political party Committee for the Independent Electoral Political Organization (Copei), part of the Democratic Alliance, has reported that he has participated in the meeting, along with other members of the coalition.

In a message posted on his Twitter social network account, he detailed that they have expressed their “public intention to reconcile for the country.” “Clear example of focus and political maturity,” she added, before specifying that the coalition does not stay “in the way of gossip.”

Maduro announced in March the reactivation of the dialogue process with the Venezuelan opposition, which was put on hold due to the extradition to the United States of Álex Saab, alleged figurehead of the president. At that time, he maintained that the dialogue, which was taking place in Mexico, received “a tremendous blow”, but defended that if Caracas “requests dialogue for the world” it has to “set an example”.

The Venezuelan government announced in October the suspension of its participation in the dialogue with the opposition in Mexico, before a new round was held in the process that began last August, in response to the extradition of Saab, wanted by the United States for alleged money laundering in favor of Maduro.
