Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch confirmed today, Tuesday, in the House of Advisors, that the government is driven by a real will to accelerate the pace of employment programs, contain unemployment rates, and provide decent job opportunities in a way that ensures equality and equal opportunities in obtaining permanent and sustainable employment.
In response to a central question on the subject of “social dialogue as a mechanism to improve the conditions of workers and a lever to improve the performance of the national economy,” during the monthly accountability session at the House of Advisors, Akhannouch said that the government has made social dialogue a fundamental basis for employment issues to be at the forefront of its concerns during the next phase, considering it an urgent and pressing national priority.
After noting that the social dialogue “has gone beyond the classic discussion on labor issues that used to be raised on the eve of May 1st of each year,” Mr. Akhannouch highlighted that the government was able to make this dialogue “a real expression for answering the problems of reducing inequality and social justice, and a reference framework for discussion on issues of developing the Moroccan economic model and social relations with unions and employers.”
In this context, he noted that the government, through the social dialogue mechanism, wants to create bridges of communication with trade union centers and employers to interact positively with priority issues in the Kingdom, most notably the issue of employment with the aim of creating productive investment for decent work and ensuring its sustainability, calling in this regard for concerted efforts to prepare a new generation of public policies directed at employment and ensuring their consistency, activating training programs and their suitability with the labor market, and facilitating the process of access to it by young people and all social groups.
The Prime Minister explained that the vision of the latter is “based on the duality of productive investment and its relationship with the national dynamic of social dialogue, which constitutes a real locomotive for economic take-off and thus accelerating the pace of job creation for the benefit of citizens.”
He pointed out that the final economic indicators for the year 2023 “tangibly highlight the extent of the government’s effort to overcome all previous accumulations that affected the employment situation in the Kingdom, stressing that the national economy was able to achieve positive results that exceeded expectations, despite the succession of difficult national and international contexts.
Mr. Akhannouch concluded by stressing that the government, together with its economic and social partners, has established a Moroccan model for social dialogue, “which will be an important link in the path of completing the Moroccan democratic modern project, and a central mechanism for serving the foundations of the social state as His Majesty King Mohammed VI wants it.”
