representatives of the teachers’ union ATEN and the provincial government met this morning to start the first salary round and went to a quarter intermission until next Thursday. As happened yesterday at the tables with the other unions, there was no offer of recomposition, but there was an explanation from the Executive ministers regarding the effect that last year’s agreement had on finances and what will happen this 2023 if it is they keep updates tied to inflation. To the teachers too reminded them of the impact of the change in Income Tax which began to be applied from December.
The Minister of Government and Education, Osvaldo Llancafiloindicated the sector benefited from that law “significantly”which shows a certain interest of officials in discourage orders extra wages as an additional percentage before starting the adjustments tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Yesterday they warned ATE, UPCN and the Unavp that they ruled out that possibility “outright” because they explained that the update mechanism itself already generates “a permanent and sustained growth in the wage bill that leaves no room for further increases.”
The general secretary of ATEN, Marcelo Guagliardo, said today at the end of the meeting that they might raise the requests resolved yesterday in the plenary session of Cutral Co to raise the problems of education workers “with a view to having a proposal that can be put to the consideration of the assemblies».
He evaluated that it was “more extensive than we expected because there was a report presented by the government with what is the reality that they state that they have regarding the numbers of the province and because the specifications that we propose as an organization are extensive.”
Short deadlines and game updates
Among the demands is the continuation of the automatic clause for inflation, on which they ask shorten deadlinesin addition to an additional one that helps the “salary recovery”give continuity to the correction of hours, the need to create positions at the initial and primary level, in addition to updates for the games of dining room, snacks, general expenses and family allowances, also by CPI.
Guagliardo asked that the negotiation “do not delay” and the table went to a fourth intermission until Thursday at 10. They will meet with the other unions from Tuesday.
Tomorrow there will be another meeting with the teachers, but of a technical nature, to resolve school infrastructure issues.
