As Vytautas Mitalas, an elder of the Freedom faction, told BNS, the leaders of the three governing parties and factions will focus on discussing the most important state revenue and expenditure plan for 2024.
“Since we did not receive anything in advance, we are now analyzing what was (publicly – BNS) provided. We will discuss what the main budget issues are, what is missing, what is there,” V. Mitala said.
V. Mitala did not rule out that the rulers will also consider the issue of education: “I think we will discuss the current issues of education, because it is a very important topic.”
The Chairman of the Seimas Budget and Finance Committee, Mindaugas Lingė, said that the coalition council will also discuss the new model of real estate (NT) tax, which appeared after the committee considered the option presented by the Government and adjusted it.
“We need to discuss whether the discussion will really take place on Tuesday or the next day, but that possibility should have its place on the agenda. Whether it will be needed or not is another question. But that wish is for us to have (BNS on the agenda) on Tuesday”, said M. Lingė.
Those in power call the 2024 budget draft approved by the Government and submitted to the Seimas realistic, drawn up according to the state’s capabilities, the opposition says that the plan is electoral, overly optimistic and without a future.
The committees have considered the amendments to the real estate tax law – according to them, the “scissors” of the commercial and residential real estate tax could reach 0.05-4 percent from 2025, and specific rates would be determined by municipalities. A part of the value of the main dwelling, not exceeding 1.5 of the median of the real estate values of the specific municipality (average value of the dwelling), would be tax-free. G. Skaistė says that the option of the real estate tax proposed by the committee is a compromise and could be accepted.
Earlier it was stated that in order to receive RRF support, it is necessary to adopt amendments to the Real Estate Tax Law, as well as the green fuel excise package, which the Seimas has already adopted.
