Former bakery employees in a large store in Louviers, Mounir Bouajaja and Céline Urbini no longer flourished in their profession which they nevertheless loved. In August 2022, they opened their first establishment in Haine-Saint-Pierre before the second which has just opened its doors in the city center of La Louvière. “We no longer found ourselves in our old job and, on a corner of the table, around a coffee, we made the difficult decision to leave our job to launch our own bakery,” Céline confides to us. “A complicated decision and a bit risky all the same but it turned out well.”
It went so well that a year following the opening of the first “Coin gourmand”, a second branch has just been opened at 16 Place Maugrétout. “Having a store in the city center will allow us to further develop our business and improve the offer for customers. For example, we particularly appreciate baklavas and other oriental pastries. In a village, yes, we have some but being in the city center will allow us to expand the range.”
Because, obviously, the clientele is different in a city than in a village. “In Haine-Saint-Pierre, our clientele is in fact limited to people who live in the neighborhood while there is much more passing through town. People who work there and want to buy their sandwiches, children or teenagers who come out of school and want a little treat… It’s not the same approach or the same audience.”
A calculated risk
In addition to the usual bread, pastries and small pastries, the house specializes in making cakes on site. “Mounir makes magnificent and succulent Bavarians in all flavors. We also offer cakes for all festivities, wedding cakes, birthday cakes, etc. Our strength is listening to our customers.”
While many businesses are fleeing the city center, let us highlight the courage of these Louviers entrepreneurs. “Yes, it’s a risk but a calculated risk. We even say to ourselves that if it works well, we will be able to further develop the activity.”
