The Golden State Warriors have apparently agreed to a trade from Chris Paul with the Washington Wizards that will ship the point guard to the Bay Area. For this, a formerly celebrated youngster has to leave the dubs.

Even before the NBA draft on Friday night, there is a lot going on in the world’s best basketball league. After the trades from Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns and Kristaps Porzingis to the Celtics, the Washington Wizards have become active once more: Chris Paul is apparently moving from Washington to the Golden State Warriors.
According to the well-connected “ESPN” journalist Adrian Wojnarowski, both parties have agreed on a deal that “The Athletic” also reports on. Accordingly, the Warriors separate from Jordan Poole, Ryan Rollins and several draft picks to guide the 38-year-old “Point God” to San Francisco.
Paul, who was named a 12-time All-Star and five-time league-leading assists trainer in his 18-year NBA career, played for the Phoenix Suns last season but was traded to Washington for Beal a few days ago. He led the Suns to the NBA Finals together with Devin Booker in 2021, but one of the best point guards in NBA history was still denied the title following the 4-2 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
New Warriors Big Three around Paul, Curry and Thompson
This should now succeed with the Warriors, who are very interesting in the backcourt with CP3, Stephen Curry (35 years) and Klay Thompson (33) – but also relatively old. The 2022 champion actually wanted to guarantee a seamless transition from the Curry era to the next successful phase in franchise history with the 24-year-old Poole, in the past season he had 20.4 points and 4.5 assists per game.
Nevertheless, the hoped-for next development step did not materialize, and he was anything but convincing in the play-offs. There was also an internal rift before the start of the season when Draymond Green beat the youngster during a training session. Green, another key component of the Warriors’ championship teams in recent years, is a free agent this summer but is set to be retained.
Complete rebuilding planned in Washington
Poole is now getting the chance for a fresh start in Washington. The Wizards have initiated a complete rebuild, with Beal and Porzingis the two best players of the past season are gone. Poole will be allowed to let off steam in the US capital in the future, with the Wizards focusing on the highest possible draft picks.
The Warriors will give them a protected first-round pick in 2030 and a second-round pick in 2027 in the CP3 trade. The deal isn’t expected to go official until early July, when Poole’s new four-year, $128 million contract begins.
