The golden hour. The time before sunset, when the light blushes and softens, and the whole world lights up kindly. That’s the name of the debut album by the German band Jeremias, and their concert also took place during these hours. Only the sky over the Gurten was gray instead of golden. And the gloom underlined above all the melancholy in the songs of Jeremias, the yearning lyrics, the feeling of being on the road forever without really arriving.

Unlike previous artists like Pongo or Alewya, who relied on DJs, a whole band played on the tent stage, precisely, passionately, and the warm voice of singer Jeremias Heimbach floated above everything, with an outrageous amount of depth for his age. It is the first time on this Gurten that the visitors know whole passages of the text and sing along by heart.
And yet – somehow the concert ripples along. Funk, pop, now and then a pinch of disco. The recipe works, and yet remains the same. At least that’s what you think until Jeremiah plays “Crazy”.
The latest single that combines euphoria with pain, and suddenly the tent is dancing, the first rows seem almost lost. The golden hour is “emotionally the most intense phase of the day,” said guitarist Oliver Sparkuhle in an interview. This here, this moment – finally it fits. (jack)
