There was a pure nostalgic atmosphere in the Kulturkeller Dobersberg on Saturday. “The Goessl Brothers” gave the audience a rousing Beatles tribute concert with unforgettable hits from the 1960s. Of course, classics like “All you need is love”, “Yesterday”, “Penny lane” and “Hey Jude” might not be missed on the evening.
The magnificent music of the most successful band of all time has lost none of its fascination even following more than 50 years since its dissolution. With their program “Tribute To The Beatles”, the brothers Hannes and Horst Gössl have dedicated themselves entirely to the musical life’s work of the Liverpool cult band and inspire their audience with their passionate stage performance. Since the early 90s, the thoroughbred musician Horst Gössl from Retzerland has been delighting his audiences as a singer, guitarist and bassist in various band and studio projects.
I imitated the Beatles when I was a child
“We listened to our mother’s Beatles records on a small portable record player as children in the 1970s,” says Horst Gössl, explaining his passion for the band. “With badminton rackets as guitars and a detergent box as a drum, we stood on the living room table and imitated the group. My brother and I later often sang together at private events. A few years ago I hired him to sing Beatles songs with me at his 50th birthday party. We had so much fun that we took up the idea for the Beatles tribute.”
Coincidentally, the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ founding was also coming up in 2020. That’s why they wanted to do the whole thing properly with a whole program and rehearsed for it for a year. Ultimately only one concert would have been possible in 2020. They have now performed the concerto a few times and recently added a string quartet. This version premiered in February and will be performed a few times in Vienna.
In the Kulturkeller, the two of them conjured up a journey through the Fab Four’s 10 years of musical work on stage with acoustic guitars and congenial voices.
