The goal of liberating women from fear is a priority

The National Commission for Lebanese Women, the United Nations Population Fund and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) have virtually launched a report on the implementation track of the “National Strategy Action Plan to Combat Violence once morest Women and Girls 2019-2029.”

The meeting was attended by the Secretary of the National Commission, Notary Public Randa Abboud, Director of the Office of the United Nations Population Fund Asma Kordahi, Head of the Women’s Section at ESCWA, Nada Darwaza, and concerned personalities. Abboud delivered a speech by the President of the National Commission for Lebanese Women, Mrs. Claudine Aoun, in which he said:

This report falls within the “monitoring and evaluation” approach adopted by the authority and its partners, to assess the policies it adopts to achieve the goals of gender equality, in order to work to correct its course when it is necessary to make this correction. The goal of developing a national strategy to combat violence once morest women was to reach an effective participation between various governmental and non-governmental parties, in a unified vision to identify the phenomenon of violence once morest women in our society, in terms of the spread of this phenomenon, characterizing it, monitoring its roots, providing protection for its victims and working to combat its spread . It is obvious that working in this field is at the core of the objectives of the National Commission for Lebanese Women, as strengthening the status of women in society requires, above all else, protecting women from the risk of violence, and providing support, protection and assistance to them when they are exposed to cases of violence.

She concluded: “The goal of liberating women from fear is a priority. In order for them to achieve their aspirations, and to have the ability to perform their various societal roles, women must be confident that the law protects them, that the judiciary does justice to them, and that services are available to them when needed. I thank Dr. Margaret El-Helou for preparing this valuable and rich report, and I thank UNFPA and ESCWA for their support to enable the Lebanese society to get rid of this scourge that hinders its progress.”
