The winners of the “World Press Photo” competition were selected this year for the 67th time by an independent commission consisting of 31 professionals from around the world. They had to review and rate more than 61,062 photos submitted by 3,581 photographers from 130 countries.
This year’s Photo of the Year award goes to a photo of a grieving Palestinian woman hugging her little niece who was killed in an Israeli strike in the Gaza Strip. A photo by Mohammed Salem of Reuters shows Inas Abu Maamar holding the body of five-year-old Saly, who was killed along with her mother and sister when a rocket hit their home in Khan Yunis.
