Unless you live on Mars, everyone knows: it’s a crisis. For three good years, we all have the impression of living in a world at odds, which corresponds to one of the definitions of the French Academy to describe this term which comes to us from the Greek.
However, the salvo of indicators published this week confirms that this episode is also in total “break” with these recent precedents. Technically, an economic crisis occurs when there is an imbalance between supply and demand. It can also turn out to be the consequence of another crisis, of a financial nature. Speculative trading can typically change the trajectory of an economy when it appears that expectations or intended outcomes have not materialized. This was typically the case in 2008, when “subprime”, these sliced up and securitized real estate loans, revealed their toxic nature.
