The archdiocese announced that Aquila was given a one-year grace period for full absolution by Pope Francis.

After the Mass scheduled for 6.30 pm today, the Auxiliary Bishop of Aquila Archdiocese, Mon. Antonio de Angelo will re-close the holy gates of the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio, opened yesterday by Pope Francis during his pastoral visit. But the penitentiary will not end today, as Pope Celestine V says in the decree “Inter sanctorum solemnia”. According to a special dispensation granted by Pope Francis, pilgrims arriving at Aquila will be able to enjoy a full indulgence each day until August 28, the Day of Forgiveness 2023.
V. Absolution can also be obtained by participating in liturgies in honor of Pope Celestine V, or by spending time in prayer before the saint’s relics.
