MAERSK, the Danish shipping giant, has just announced that it has increased its results sixfold in 2021. The group reported a net profit of $18 billion. A record that is explained by the overheating of maritime transport, two years following the beginning of the pandemic.
The global economic recovery is benefiting shipping, and the world’s number one, the Danish group MAERSK. Its revenue doubled to $62 billion. Its main competitors the Italian-Swiss MSC and the French CMA CGM have also recorded good financial results.
Cargo operators operating huge container ships have benefited from the consumer boom. Failing to spend their money on various services, consumers have been buying a lot of electronic goods from Asia online for the past two years.
This boosts the activity of shipowners, responsible for bringing these products, in Europe or North America.
This high demand is also causing a great mess in sea freight, which has led to soaring prices and delays. Global logistics chains are in a tight flow. A waterlogging that should last, until the end of this year.
