The “ghost goal” controversy continues… Barcelona resorts to the judiciary

Spain – Press reports revealed that Barcelona intends to file a judicial complaint due to the arbitration incidents witnessed in its match once morest Real Madrid in the Spanish League.

Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-2, and came very close to officially clinching the La Liga title for this season, following expanding the points difference with Barca.

The match witnessed a controversial moment when Lamine Yamal scored a ball to the left of goalkeeper Lunin, and the Barcelona players demanded a goal, but referee Soto Grado, following referring to video technology, refused, claiming that the ball did not enter the goal in its entirety, and indicated for the game to continue.

Barcelona President Joan Laporta demanded all the photos and recordings of that match from the Spanish Football Federation, but the latter refused, which angered the Catalans.

According to what the Sport newspaper reported, citing Catalunya Radio, Barcelona decided to file a judicial complaint, and the club’s goal with this measure is that justice “forces the Spanish Football Federation to hand over all photos and audio recordings of El Clásico” without modifications or cuts to the sound.

Laporta issued a strongly worded statement, confirming that if the goal is proven correct, he will ask the Spanish Federation to replay the match once more.

On the other hand, the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” reported that the El Clásico match was broadcast with a total of 36 cameras, and during the replays of the Yamal goal, filming was done from several sides, except for the corner opposite goalkeeper Andrey Lunin, as this camera was not working.

The newspaper added: “In this way, despite the presence of several shots from more open angles indicating that the ball had entered the goal, referee Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez, in charge of video technology, confirmed to the arena referee Soto Grado that there was not enough evidence to count the penalty.” The goal is for Barcelona.”

Barcelona will face its rival, Valencia, next Monday, in the 33rd round of the Spanish League for this season 2023-2024.
