The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced about 50 million euro aid to the civilian population of the Gaza Strip

She added that Germany was also preparing to send medical teams to the besieged enclave, her ministry said in a statement. According to the minister, the purpose of the trip is to express strong solidarity and help ensure the Palestinians have access to aid.

She announced the aid package in Jordan, the first leg of her tour of the region, which will also see her visit Lebanon and Israel.

“Our message is clear,” she said at a press conference in Amman alongside Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi. “We do not abandon innocent Palestinian mothers, fathers and children.”

Before leaving, Baerbock stressed Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas and accused the militant group of using Gaza civilians as shields in the war.

On October 7, Hamas gunmen broke through Gaza’s heavily fortified border with Israel, killing more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and taking at least 199 hostages, according to the Jewish state.

Israel responded to the attacks with a relentless bombardment of the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 3,470 people, mostly civilians, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas.

Israel has also imposed a crippling blockade on the Palestinian enclave, leaving its residents with increasingly scarce food, water and fuel.

“It’s important for me to make it clear to the Palestinians that we also recognize their suffering,” Baerbock said before starting her trip. According to her, the humanitarian situation in Gaza is catastrophic.

The minister, who has already visited Israel and Egypt last week, said Berlin was working closely with G7 member states, the European Union and regional partners to ensure that aid could reach the Gaza Strip.

She also said she would use the trip to speak to anyone with ties to Hamas to discuss how to secure the release of hostages held by the group.

Does Germany⁣ support Palestine or Israel

**Short Interview: Germany’s⁤ Aid to Gaza**

**Interviewer**: Welcome to our program. Today, we’re discussing Germany’s recent commitment to ⁤aid ⁣in Gaza. Joining us is Dr. Lena Müller, a foreign policy expert. Dr. Müller, Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock recently announced an aid package for ‍the Palestinian⁣ territories. Could you elaborate on what the aid entails?

**Dr. Müller**: Thank ⁤you for having me. Yes, Germany has ‌pledged around €250 ‍million to support the‌ Palestinian territories, which includes ⁤not only financial aid but also humanitarian ⁢assistance. The focus is on providing essential services and⁣ immediate support to those affected by the ongoing conflict.

**Interviewer**: That’s significant. What specific ‍measures is Germany taking to ensure that aid reaches those in need in ‌Palestine?

**Dr. Müller**: In her recent statements, Minister Baerbock emphasized ⁣the deployment of medical teams to Gaza,⁣ aimed at addressing the health crisis exacerbated by the conflict. This will help ensure that ⁤Palestinians have ‌access to urgent⁤ medical care. It’s part of Germany’s broader mission⁣ to demonstrate solidarity and support for innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.

**Interviewer**: It’s clear that humanitarian access is a priority. Baerbock also mentioned Israel’s right to defend⁢ itself against Hamas. How does⁢ Germany navigate these complex political dynamics?

**Dr. Müller**: It is indeed a balancing act. Minister Baerbock acknowledged Israel’s right to defense while also condemning Hamas for ‍its tactics, such as using civilians as human shields. Germany aims to advocate for justice and security for both Palestinians and Israelis. This dual approach is crucial in pursuing ⁤a long-term ‍resolution to the conflict.

**Interviewer**: Lastly, what impact do you think this aid will have on the ground in Gaza?

**Dr. Müller**: While aid can provide immediate relief, the ⁣long-term solution must involve diplomatic efforts and⁣ peace negotiations. The hope is that this assistance will not only alleviate some suffering⁤ but ⁣also encourage a more constructive dialogue about the future of both peoples. Aid is important, but it must be part of a larger strategy towards peace.

**Interviewer**:⁤ Thank you,⁣ Dr. Müller, ⁤for shedding light on Germany’s aid efforts in Gaza. It’s a⁢ complex situation requiring thoughtful solutions.

**Dr.‌ Müller**: Thank you for having me.
