The GeForce RTX 4070 has been available for only two weeks, but its sales have not lived up to expectations. The observation is identical for the RTX 4080 which was however released in November 2022. The RTX 4070 and 4080 cannot convince the players, so Nvidia will have to find a solution to remedy this problem.
Sales of the GeForce RTX 4070 and 4080 are so insufficient that production has far exceeded gamer demand. Its inventories therefore exceed the industry average. Nvidia has already limited the production of its next-generation graphics cards, but it will still have to sell stocks from resellers around the world.
RTX 4070 and 4080 prices might tumble to sell off inventory
In a new report, EE Times explains that: “ NVIDIA has the largest inventory of GPUs, with an estimated 220 day supply “. In comparison, safety stock in the graphics card industry should be 92 days supply. Nvidia has therefore manufactured so many next-gen graphics cards that we will have to find a solution to regulate stocks.
Next-generation GPUs have already seen their prices drop among our neighbors across the Atlantic. Even the RTX 4070 was priced below the RRP. As for the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090, Nvidia has dropped its price by around $100. Such a price drop is rare for next-gen graphics cards released so recently.
As the report explained, resellers won’t have much of a choice when it comes to clearing their inventory of high-end graphics cards. It would therefore not be surprising to see the arrival of promotions and other commercial operations. This is great news for gamers, but not for Nvidia who are trying to curb production to avoid excessive inventory at retailers.
