The game is preparing for its future… and for the Steam Deck

What a long way No Man’s Sky—and it’s obviously not ready to stop: in any case, that’s what Sean Murray, director of the game and director of Hello Games, says in an interview with the American site IGN. The studio’s spokesperson spoke regarding the future of the game, more than 5 years following its disastrous launch on PlayStation 4, the day following the release of Sentinel, the latest content update.

That’s one hell of a story that No Man’s Sky had—post-launch as thrilling as its genesis. The space exploration game has changed considerably (and once more, to say the least) since its release in 2016 to the boos of dissatisfied fans, who fell in love with a colorful version of the game sold by tireless push marketing. from Sony. To tell the truth, the No Man’s Sky of 2022 no longer has much to do with the game imagined by its development team at the start; far from being an ode to contemplation, it is now a title rich in narration, lore to discover and content to unlock.

The space exploration game has significantly changed (and once more, it’s an understatement to say it) since its release in 2016 to the boos of dissatisfied fans, who fell in love with a colorful version of the game sold by Sony’s tireless push marketing. Truth be told, the No Man’s Sky 2022 no longer has much to do with the game imagined by its development team at the start; far from being an ode to contemplation, it is now a title rich in narration, lore to discover and content to unlock.

The future of No Man’s Sky will be in the stars

The latest Sentinel update completely re-imagines the game’s combat system, which was undoubtedly one of the game’s weakest points. After a large number of updates of all kinds in recent years, it’s hard to to imagine what Hello Games might bring more… But Sean Murray has many ideas in mind:

Even following the many updates we’ve released since launch and the many tasks we’ve completed, the list of things we want to do doesn’t seem to be getting any shorter. The team [de développement] is always coming up with new things that we want to put into the game.

The Sentinel update was also an opportunity to introduce full compatibility with the Steam Deck, Valve’s portable console scheduled for release at the end of February. No Man’s Sky thus becomes playable natively on the Steam Deck, without having to tamper with the options to adapt the gaming experience to the controls of the (big) little bike. To do it right, Hello Games has also integrated touch controls that can be seen in a short video posted on Sean Murray’s official Twitter account.
