We get annual updates on the current lineup from Apple and Samsung every year. It is almost identical to the watch of these two brands. However, most of the new devices released by major brands generally offer minor upgrades. Consider the regular Galaxy S23, which I think is “boringly perfect”. But the case will not be the same for the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
In fact, thanks to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, this year’s Apple and Samsung lineup will be even more exciting than most of its predecessors. Although the design hasn’t changed much, there have been a lot of upgrades inside. Therefore, it has a great opportunity to acquire the upcoming iPhone 15 series.
It seems that iPhones are not Apple’s main priority anymore
According to Mark Gurman, a leading industry insider, this year, Apple’s main focus is on its augmented reality headset. This means that there will be no major updates to the iPad Pro, and Apple won’t be working too much on this year’s iPhone lineup. This, in theory, gives Samsung an advantage over Apple with the upcoming Galaxy S23 lineup.
In fact, from recent leaks, we know that the Apple iPhone 15 will not have any major upgrades. This appears to be reserved for the iPhone 16 series, which Apple plans to renew. Another thing is that Apple plans to change the name of Pro Max to Ultra. This means that the iPhone 15 Ultra will compete with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra even in naming.
However, there won’t be any “wow” factors for the iPhone 15 series this year. At least, that’s what we expect from recent reports. Yes, the iPhone will once once more be ahead of the SoC game with the A17 Bionic chip. But aren’t phones today already capable enough?
Another thing that might give the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra an edge is the price. A rumor appeared recently. I mentioned that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are regarding to get even more expensive. Rumors have hinted at a price increase of regarding $100 over the current starting prices.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra has a truly unique opportunity right now
Recent risky projects for Samsung have already paid off. The Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series are already bearing fruit. These two groups already dominate the foldable phone market.
Now that Apple is focusing entirely on AR (augmented reality), Samsung has every chance it can get hold of the iPhone series. And with the Galaxy S23 Ultra, if Samsung does things right, it might be the dominant phone this year.
However, we cannot forget what Apple taught us. This means that most consumers don’t care that there are a lot of features. As long as the phone is reliable and affordable, it will appeal exceptionally well.
In terms of reliability, Samsung has ditched the Exynos lineup for the Galaxy S23 series, including the Ultra. This means that all series phones will come with Qualcomm chips. Samsung has reportedly opted for an enhanced Qualcomm 8 Gen 2 SoC. This chip will be more reliable than any flagships that ship with Exynos.
However, this does not mean that Samsung abandons the features of the S23 series. The Galaxy S23 Ultra, according to leaked promotional videos, will be a camera monster. It might even take place on the Pixel 7 series!
Not to mention that the new One UI interface will offer extensive customization features. Encased in the beautiful Galaxy S23 Ultra hardware, this software will come up with something that might make iPhone 15 shake its knees.
