The Gabonese State has purchased 56% of the shares of the private Gabonese airline company Afrijet and becomes the majority shareholder of this aircraft manufacturer which serves domestic routes in Gabon and in the Central Africa sub-region up to Benin in Africa. West.
The signing of the agreement took place Tuesday at the presidential palace in the presence of the Head of State of the Transition, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma.
« The Gabonese state now owns 56% of Afrijet. Afrijet becomes a national company since the majority of the capital is held by the Gabonese State », indicated the Minister of Economy and Participations, Mays Mouissi who countersigned the agreement.
Through this acquisition, Gabon wants to materialize its project to create a new national airline following the bankruptcy of Air Gabon and the very short-lived Gabon Airlines.
« We will use this company to build, from traffic rights, from its customer base, the new airline which will be called Fly Gabon. », Specified the minister.
Afrijet is currently the largest air carrier in Gabon. Libreville is therefore counting on the achievements of this company to take off Fly Gabon, promised to the Gabonese by President Oligui Nguéma.
« We are going to strengthen the company with new devices that will arrive, for which we have already paid for », affirmed Mr. Mouissi.
The future national pavilion will serve domestic, regional lines and beyond Central Africa, the minister argued.

In a press release, Afrijet indicated that it “ will transform its statutes to evolve into a public limited company with a Board of Directors and Managing Director, with governance capitalizing on the principles of private management ».
The purchase of shares by the State aims, according to the company, among other things, to serve all of the provinces of Gabon, during the deployment of the plan to bring Gabon’s airports up to standard, to develop international services, through the acquisition of medium-sized carrier devices and finally contribute to the reduction of ticket prices on the national territory, in order to promote the mobility of Gabonese men and women.
A Gabonese company born in 2005 in Libreville, Afrijet became in 2019 the first airline in the CEMAC zone. A historic charter player, the company has developed a regular regional air transport network since October 2016.
IOSA certified since February 2020, Afrijet employs 320 employees in Gabon, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome and Benin. The company operates a fleet of 6 turboprops from the European manufacturer ATR.
