The Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) announced on October 2 the dismissal of Pamela Conti, coach of the Vinotinto senior women’s team and the under-20 team, as well as that of her brother, Vicenzo Conti, who was her assistant on the senior team. and coach of the women’s under-17 category.

Through its social networks, the federation thanked both for their time in the different women’s categories.

“We want to thank Pamela Conti, technical director of the senior and under-20 team, as well as Vincenzo Conti, technical assistant of the senior team and technical director of the under-17 category, for all these years with our women’s teams in its different categories, working for women’s football in our country,” the FVF reported in a publication on its social networks.

Pamela Conti’s career

Conti debuted as a footballer in 1996, in the third division team Aquile Palermo, in Italy. Two years later he made his debut with the Italian team, with which he played in the 2005 and 2009 Euro Cups. While in 1999 he signed with Torres of Serie A.

After 9 years, Conti signed with Levante in 2008 and between 2009-2010 he played for the Spanish club Espanyol. He also played in Russia for one season for Energiya Voronezh and another for Zorky Krasnogorsk.

Criticism after the U-20 Women’s World Cup

The Italian coach joined the Vinotinto women’s team in October 2019, however, during this time she did not achieve the desired results for the team.

In her last participation as technical director of Venezuela, the female Vinotinto failed to advance to the Group Phase at the Colombia U-20 World Cup, which was held in September 2024.

On September 4, after Venezuela’s match against South Korea, on the second day of Group D of the U-20 Women’s World Cup, Conti regretted that her team tied with the Asian team, however, she expressed being “proud” of the level of their players.

Later, his performance was questioned on social networks after the elimination of the Venezuelan team in the World Cup.

Likewise, her technical direction was surrounded by criticism from national team players, such as Deyna Castellanos, Sonia O’Neill and Kika Moreno, who expressed differences with the coach.

The incident arose after O’Neill was excluded from the squad for the second friendly match against Uruguay, on September 25, 2023. Given this, the player published a statement ensuring that she had been removed from the list “unfairly.” In addition, he reported mistreatment by Conti.

For this reason, several of the athlete’s colleagues supported her, while some claimed to have suffered “irregular situations” under the direction of the coach.

“Due to the latest events that have been part of the selection, as captain of our Vinotinto, I want to make a specific and serious request to the FVF to open a space where both parties can present their points and evidence so that this situation comes to a resolution. best solution for the team,” Castellanos wrote in a text he published on his X account.
