The future screens of the iPad Pro, between OLED and camera under the screen

The screens used by Apple on its iPad Pro range will evolve a lot in the coming years, according to sources from Ross Young quoted by MacRumors. The analyst, specialized in screens, expects the arrival of a 14.1″ model for next year in addition to the current 11″ and 12.9″ models. If he initially thought that this new very large model would carry a Mini-LED screen with ProMotion technology (120 Hz), this would not ultimately be the case and this model would be satisfied with a conventional LCD screen, without ProMotion.

Apple would also not intend to integrate a Mini-LED screen into its small 11 “model, which would remain in LCD until the big rocker of the entire range. on OLED technology in 2024. Apple would use a new generation of OLED panels with two emissive layers, which would ensure greater longevity and increased brightness, while gaining in lightness compared to Mini-LED technology.

The two current M1 models

Another major development to come will concern the integration of the TrueDepth camera directly behind the slab. Today, front sensors define the width of the margin around the screen. Apple could reduce this margin by creating a notch for the sensors, like on the iPhone or the Mac, but it would only be a temporary solution until these sensors can be housed under the screen. According to Ross Young, the iPad Pro and not the iPhone would be the first to benefit from such a solution, because the iPad is produced in much smaller quantities. He thus evokes a launch “theoretically possible” as early as next year, but therefore does not rule out that Apple will take longer. For the iPhone, the integration of sensors in the screen is expected for 2025.

In the short term, the next revision of the iPad Pro is expected for the end of this year with the integration of the Apple M2 chip, but without novelty on the front of the screens. That wouldn’t stop Apple from upgrading the iPad Pro to other plans with MagSafe integration for wireless charging, setting up new cameras, and the possible moving Face ID and webcam on the side of the tablet to better adapt to increasingly common uses in landscape mode.
