The future of judo in Dushanbe

After the success of the Judo Grand Prix, the Junior World Championships are now taking place here in the Kasri Tennis Arena!

The spectators were excited to see the best young judoka in the world, who want to be part of the next generation of judo heroes.

An ambitious goal

Hui Xinran of China skillfully defeated Japan’s Yoshino Sachiyo with a sacrifice technique to win the title in the 48kg weight class.

Vladimir Barta, IJF sports director, presented the medals.

“My goal is to become an Olympic champion, so I will take it step by step and continue to give my best in every competition. Maybe I’ll win some competitions, maybe I’ll lose, but I don’t care. I will continue to work towards my dream and make it a reality,” said Hui Xinran.

“When I came to Tajikistan, I was touched by how warmly the people welcomed me. I really like Tajikistan, the accommodation and everything here. It was all wonderful.”

A returning champion

An extremely confident Fukuda Yamato, the defending 2023 World Junior Championship champion, wasted no time in quickly defeating 16-year-old Tajik Loiq Kudbudinov to become a two-time Junior World Champion in the 60kg weight class.

Mr. Ismoil Mahmadzoir, President of the Tajik Judo Association, presented the medial.

“The food in Tajikistan is very good and we are very honored to take part in such a great event and venue. I’m very happy that we were able to compete here,” said Fukuda Yamato

From team members to competitors

Oi Iroha defeated her teammate Nosho Senju in the final of the 52kg class.

Florin Daniel Lascau, IJF Head Referee Director, presented her with the gold medal.

Fukuchi Shuntaro also faced a teammate in the final. After Kentoku Kairi was disqualified for illegally using his head for a throwing technique, Fukuchi took the title in the 66kg weight class!

Qurbonali Safarzoda, main sponsor of the Junior World Championships in Dushanbe, distributed the medals.

A Parisian gift

Tajik fans had the special opportunity to get photos and autographs from one of their heroes: Somon Makhmadbekov, the Paris Olympics bronze medalist in judo.

Tajikistan’s Loiq Kudbudinov also wowed the home crowd with his performance on Day 1. The judoka’s silver medal was a highlight of the day.
