The “cut” of 800 people came after the 180,000 security checks that have been carried out so far, out of a total of one million, that have been planned.
“The French must know that we are absolutely controlling everyone who approaches the Olympics. So there are the volunteers, the Torchbearers, the escorts. A million checks need to be done, we have already carried out 180,000 checks and we have excluded 800 people, including 15 in S-files”, underlined the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanen, speaking to the news station “LCI”.
“This means that there are people who wanted to sign up to carry the Olympic Flame, to be volunteers at the Olympics and who clearly did not have good intentions,” Darmanen explained, clarifying that among these people there were also radical Islamists and people of the radical ecology that they want to protest”.
The Olympic Games (July 26 – August 11) and Paralympic Games (August 28 – September 8) will mobilize nearly 45,000 internal security forces. Event security will be ensured by an average of 35,000 police and gendarmes per day across France (25,000 for the Paralympic Games).
At least 18,000 soldiers and between 18,000 and 22,000 private security agents are added to them every day.
According to Darmanen “102 private security agents with S-files” were banned from the Olympics, while “we still have 800,000 people to check”.
