The French Genevois, a land of misery for civil servants

“Teachers who sleep in their cars, we see that in Haute-Savoie”, says Emmanuel Fuss, the departmental secretary of the SE-Unsa teacher union. The scene repeats itself every school year. The freshly graduated who start at 1400 euros monthly and are appointed in the French Genevois stumble on the epic problem of housing. While waiting to unearth the miraculous dwelling, we sleep in the classrooms, in the back of the cars, in a mobile home or, a little better, by cramming three or four into a studio.
