Foreign trade remains one of the black spots of the French economy. Despite a clear recovery following the historic trade deficit of 164 billion euros recorded in 2022, the year 2023 will be a bad vintage. In November, over twelve months, the external deficit on trade in goods amounted to 110.3 billion euros, Customs indicated on Tuesday. The government is counting on a negative balance of 105 billion euros in 2023, then 95 billion in 2024. For comparison, France’s trade deficit was less than 60 billion euros in 2019, before the health crisis.

For the second consecutive month, in November, the trade balance nevertheless improved. The deficit – average over three months – was reduced to 7.4 billion euros, following 7.7 billion in October. In detail, exports increased by 200 million, to 49.6 billion euros, while imports fell by 100 million to 57 billion.
