FPÖ General Secretary Christian Hafenecker has repeatedly got himself into trouble when he calls for a report on left-wing extremism. He describes the Documentation Archive of the Austrian Resistance (DÖW) as an “extremely left-leaning private association” that “already denounces almost everyone who is not explicitly left-leaning as ‘extreme right'”. The DÖW was commissioned to write the right-wing extremism report. The FPÖ sees no need for such a report because there is an “annual report for the protection of the constitution,” as FPÖ security spokesman Hannes Amesbauer says. For the left side of the political spectrum, however, there should be such an extra report by the FPÖ.
