Jeddah: The foundation stone of the largest logistics center in the Middle East was laid in Jeddah. The construction of the center, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, will be completed early next year. Once the new center becomes operational, more than 2,500 jobs will be created.
The largest logistics center is being prepared at Jeddah Islamic Port with an investment of 130 crore Riyals. More than 2,500 jobs will be created once the project is ready for operation, said the Port General Authority ‘Mavani’ and the ‘Maersk’ company. This is part of the projects launched by ‘Mavani’ to provide investment opportunities in the logistics sector for the private sector. The logistics area is planned to cover an area of 2,25,000 square meters. It will have the capacity to handle two lakh containers. The works are expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year.
This logistics area consists of storage and distribution areas, warehouses for storing frozen food products, transshipment area, air cargo cargo handling facility and cargo transfer system to facilitate export and import of goods. It will provide innovative technology to decarbonize the logistics process to zero carbon emissions by 2040. Solar panels will be installed on the roofs of the 65,000 square meter logistics halls. The solar energy generated through this will be used for the entire operation of the logistics center. To reduce pollution, only electric trucks and cars are used for transportation here.
