In recent years things have been quiet regarding Franz Beckenbauer. He had withdrawn from the public eye for a long time. His health went downhill. Eye infarction, heart operations, plus Parkinson’s disease with associated dementia. He has suffered a lot lately. On Sunday, Beckenbauer fell asleep peacefully surrounded by his family. He was 78 years old.
After his death he left behind a huge fortune. According to several estimates, he is said to have owned over 160 million francs. He collected most of this money following his active career.

His son managed the assets
Beckenbauer received around one million francs a year as DFB coach (1984-1990). Later, lucrative jobs were added as DFB vice-president, UEFA and FIFA committee member or at FC Bayern. Additionally, he had many deals. For more than 30 years he advertised for Adidas and Erdinger Weissbier, as well as for Mitsubishi and Mercedes.
The football legend also had several luxury properties in Salzburg and Kitzbühel and expensive cars. He also lived in Switzerland for a few years and was involved in a tax scandal. He was one of the 500 richest Germans. His assets were most recently managed by his son Thomas’ company.
Beckenbauer had been married to his wife Heidi since 2006 and with her he had the children Joel (18) and Francesca (15). The sons Thomas (55) and Michael (52) come from previous relationships. In total he was married three times. His son Stephan died at the age of 46.
