The former seasonal firefighter, aged 43, who last year in August was arrested for arson in a forest area in Kefalonia and had confessed to a total of six arsons on the island, was remanded in custody but in the trial that was held, he was acquitted!
The announcement was as follows: “As part of the execution of an arrest warrant, following investigations by investigative officers of the Arson Crimes Directorate, a man was arrested, who confessed that he had caused five other forest fires in areas of Cephalonia in previous years.”
Following a decision by the Misdemeanors Council, the former seasonal firefighter was remanded in custody and taken to Korydallos prisons in September 2023. According to the case file, citing his physical need, he would leave his colleagues and when he returned, he would tell them to leave, going to another place.
Then and while no one else in the crew saw anything, he shouted “fire, fire” and when his colleagues asked him “where do you see it?”, he answered “where we were before”. He used wipes with ethyl alcohol to start fires, which are slow-burning and leave no traces.
