The former president of TVP wants to take the film industry by storm. He founded a new company

Mateusz Matyszkowicz, former president of Telewizja Polska, founded a new film company called Roma Film. As reported by “Presserwis”, the new company will focus on literary development, i.e. preparing scripts for film and TV series projects. Matyszkowicz sees huge potential in the streaming market, which has been developing dynamically for several years.

Roma Film is planning several costume productions that refer to genre traditions, which he managed to refresh during his work at Telewizja Polska. Matyszkowicz emphasizes that some of the projects will be of a typically commercial nature, including comedies.

Concepts of several costume productions are being prepared, referring to the good traditions that we managed to dust off on Polish Television. Some of the projects are typically commercial – comedy – announces the former president of TVP.

“Presserwis” reminds that during Matyszkowicz’s management of Polish Television, such costume productions were made as “Dewajtis“, which attracted an average of 2.47 million viewers, and “Matylda” with an audience of 1.86 million.

Mateusz Matyszkowicz’s career

Before taking up the position of president of TVP, Matyszkowicz was the editor-in-chief of the conservative quarterly “Fronda Lux”which, however, was no longer published. Matyszkowicz sees that the time of quarterly magazines distributed in a traditional way is coming to an end, which is why he focuses on the future in the film industry.

In Roma Film, Matyszkowicz serves as president and minority shareholder. The shareholders also include Aleksandra Dołęga, Tomasz Olszewski and Grzegorz Szkółka, who, as Matyszkowicz emphasizes, are private entrepreneurs outside the media industry.

Matyszkowicz started his career at Telewizja Polska in 2016, becoming the director of TVP Kultura. In 2017, he became director of TVP1, and in 2018, deputy director of the program office for repertoire. In April 2019, he was promoted to the management board of TVP, and in September 2022, he replaced Jacek Kurski as the president of Telewizja Polska.

Finally, in December 2023, Matyszkowicz was dismissed from the position of president of TVP by the then Minister of Culture Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz.

Ah, what a delightful escapade into the world of filmography and the shimmering lights of Polish television! Let’s dive into the headlines and see what’s brewing in the cauldron of Mateusz Matyszkowicz’s mind, shall we?

So, here we have Mateusz Matyszkowicz, formerly steering the ship at Telewizja Polska – or TVP, as the locals call it. He’s now decided to don a beret, grab a clapperboard, and establish a new film company called Roma Film. Yes, because why have a stable job when you can step into the wild, wild world of scriptwriting? You know, the film industry is a lot like my family gatherings – a barrage of drama, potential for comedy, and the occasional costume mishap.

As reported by “Presserwis,” Ma-teuszek – I mean Mateusz – is keen on diving into literary development. Scriptwriting for film and TV series, he proclaims, is where the future lies – and with streaming numbers skyrocketing like a toddler on a sugar rush, who can argue against that? It’s like realizing you can get delivered pizza at 1 AM. It’s simply a game changer!

Now, Roma Film isn’t just playing in the kiddie pool. No, no! They’re planning several costume productions that hark back to what we like to call “the good ol’ days.” You know, ruffled collars, powdered wigs – basically everything you’d need to launch a 17th-century themed rave. I wonder if their future costumes will be taking style tips from the latest Netflix hit!

Matyszkowicz mentions that some projects might lean into the commercial territory. Now, if his past successes like “Dewajtis” attracted millions of viewers, he’s riding a wave of trust and familiarity. But let’s face it, even a solid comedy can be like the last slice of pizza: everyone wants it, but only after a thorough debate on whether to embrace it or let it go cold in the fridge.

Moving on to his background – it’s quite colorful, and I’m not just talking about a kid’s crayon box. Before he took the throne at TVP, he ditched his editor-in-chief hat for a conservative quarterly magazine role at “Fronda Lux.” But because the printed word is seemingly collecting dust, he’s jumped ship, embraced the digital age, and now has his focus firmly set on films instead of stapling magazines.

The workings of Roma Film will be shared with others, such as Aleksandra Dołęga, Tomasz Olszewski, and Grzegorz Szkółka – all private entrepreneurs, which sounds rather mysterious. I don’t know about you, but they sound like the kind of people you’d invite to a heist movie, rather than a business meeting!

Matyszkowicz’s career trajectory is as thrilling as a roller coaster built by a caffeine-fueled engineer. He started at TVP in 2016, quickly rising through the ranks until he elbowed his way to the front as president in 2022. But like that time I tried to sneak snacks into the cinema, it all ended rather abruptly – he was dismissed in December 2023. Oops!

But hey, who hasn’t faced a bit of turbulence on the job? It’s the journey that counts, and now he’s in the film biz, where the only thing certain is uncertainty – and perhaps a bit of popcorn!

So, what do we think of this article? Well, it’s like an appetizer platter. A little something for everyone – some historical context, a sprinkle of humor, and a scoop of potential. It keeps the reader interested while leaving them hanging for the main course: the future films from Roma Film. Bravo! 🍿
