The former mayor of Athens, Theodoros Behrakis, has died 2024-08-11 21:41:35

Theodoros Behrakis served as Deputy Director General of ND, with responsibility for organization and political planning, was elected as a municipal councilor of Athens in the municipal elections of 2002 and 2006 and served as President of the Municipal Council in both of his terms.

From February 23 to December 31, 2006 he was the Mayor of Athens.

The New Democracy family bids farewell to Theodoros Behrakis with sadness and special emotion.

He was born in 1943 in Athens, originally from Mani and studied civil engineering at the National Technical University of Athens.

In 1968 he was arrested for his anti-dictatorship action and imprisoned. In 1974, after the restoration of the Republic, he was Prefect of Karditsa.

In addition to his long-term contribution to New Democracy, during the presidency of Constantinos Mitsotakis he served the party he loved so much as Deputy General Director, with responsibility for organization and political planning (1990-1993).

He was elected a municipal councilor of Athens in the municipal elections of 2002 and 2006 and President of the Municipal Council in both of his terms.

From February 23 to December 31, 2006 he was the Mayor of Athens.

Theodoros Behrakis was a great man and a fighter of the faction, who stood out for his ethics, consistency and combativeness. We say goodbye to him with respect and gratitude for all he has offered.
